Today the communities of Tampa and St. Petersburg gathered together in an outpouring of support to honor Corporal Porto. The streets were lined with people mourning and showing their respect for the young Marine who made the ultimate sacrifice supporting our nation in their struggle against global terrorism.
Patriots from across the bay area assembled at MacDill AFB in Tampa and awaited the arrival of Corporal Porto's remains from Dover AFB. Once honors had been rendered upon his landing his body was escorted from MacDill to Anderson-McQueen Funeral home in St. Petersburg. Along the entire route crowds gathered, waving flags and bearing signs. Each honoring the Corporal and expressing their sympathy to the family.
Many bikers from the Tampa Bay Area participated in the escort. Members of Rolling Thunder, Defenders LE M/C, American Legion Riders. Patriot Guard Riders and other organizations rode in his honor. Bikers spanned generations. In the lead were the military presently serving, behind them followed many old warriors from previous wars.
Special thanks are due the Hillsborough Sheriffs Department and the Pinellas Sheriffs Department for their excellent escort. It was the best organized escort this rider has experienced in the past five years.
The nation owes Corporal Porto and his family a debt of gratitude which can never be repaid. R.I.P. Marine, you have served your country with honor.
